Arrival in Texas

We are settled into the Crystal River Inn, hereby known as "HQ", a proper old -school Texan place. The only give away sign that this group of guests are not just tourists comes from the fact that there is a massive chevrolet suburban in the yard sporting an even bigger boat. I had to get up at the crack of dawn to see the thing this morning and she is an absolute monster.

I am quite jealous of the rest of the team who flew in together and had three hours getting advice and listening to yarns from the boats maker and owner, John Bugge. John is a true legend of the Texas Water Safari, competing in 31 races and finishing in 30. Apparently there were tears in his eyes as he recounted "the one that got away".

The boat has been described as indistructable which must count in the positives, apparently if we see rocks and other obstacles we should just aim right at 'em. Lets see, steering looks tricky but we will get her on the water today and report back.
